Hi there, my name is Jared van Bergen and I am an addict.

An addict to the magic of what is, to me, one of the greatest, if not THE greatest car brands that have graced our lovely planet: DATSUN. My fascination and admiration for the Datsun brand stems from not only having been raised in the back of a Datsun, but more so the fact that my grandfather was an integral part of the team that created the ultimate Datsun in my eyes: the P510!

This blog is my puny attempt at sharing the passion that burns inside of me for the P510 in its many forms. It was my dream at the tender young age of 16 that my first car had to be a P510, and if possible it had to an original Bluebird Coupe. Once I had my first one (unfortunately not a Bluebird Coupe…) I set my sights on obtaining an original 1600SSS P510 sedan: Checked that box 3 years ago even though I had to trade in my first ever P510 and the cash difference to get her! After I purchased my first 1972 1600SSS sedan I decided to renew my search for the elusive 1971 1600SSS Bluebird Coupe. After 2 years of fruitless searching I received a phone call from a friend who said: “I have a car I think you should come and look at as soon as you get a chance…” and I had a feeling this could be something worthwhile. When I turned up at his house that same day my eyes and heart were not ready for what stood in front of me… It was an original 1971 1600SSS Bluebird Coupe! Needless to say, I arranged for the money to be transferred into his account and took delivery of my ultimate P510 a week later. Could not have been any happier!

After that  I purchased a 1973 Datsun 620 pickup a few months back and have almost got that ready to rock the roads. The 620 was a goal I set myself at the beginning of last year so that I would have a sweet set of classic wheels to haul the parts around for both my P510’s as they undergo their respective restorations.

I will be sharing my plans for my P510’s here on this blog and updating it as regularly as possible. Hopefully a few like minded souls will find me here and share in my passion for not just the P510, but for the DATSUN brand in general…

Jared — I know the feeling when one’s Datsun gets injured by someone who should not be allowed to drive. You should see what it’s like here in Miami, Florida, where anyone can get a driver’s license. It wouldn’t be so bad if Nissan continued to make replacement body parts. Good luck with the repair job.

Thank you Nestor, I can believe it is very bad there in Miami! It would be great if Nissan still made all the body parts for the P510 and PA10, but hey, such is life no?

Hopefully I am going to be able to return her to her former glory!
